Hands-on experience (50 hours):
Working with Own Your Crown, I was inspired to tackle gender inequality through
education. In weekly meetings with professional females, I helped educate and inspire other women to pursue goals by assisting in instructing participants through different workshops. Throughout the experience itself, I helped shift the program onto Zoom, which ended up magnifying our reach locally to internationally. What I’ve seen through this experience is how educating women and young girls about opportunities can help change their circumstances to improve their linguistics and expand upon their knowledge of the subject matter to further understand women's struggles. Moreover, this opportunity allowed women to create a platform to empower a generation of women to seek their freedom, find their passions, and fight for their voice through education. Lastly, I had the pleasure of inspiring young women to pursue careers through education and helping match them with professional mentors.
Foreign Language Skills: I am a native Spanish Speaker.
Intercultural Competence courses:
1. Course: INR4075 - International Protection of Human Rights
2. Course: CPO 4737 - Transitions and Human Rights
3. Course: INR3081 - Contemporary International Problems
Professional and Leadership Development: Millennium Fellowship Campus Director
3. Describe a leadership experience that you intend to pursue:
At the beginning of 2020, my campus ministry and I decided to have our biggest outreach
event at the GC and ballroom pit. As one of the leaders, I have the opportunity to organize
an event that more than 300 students came to, starting with the sponsorship of food and
t-shirts until asking permission from the university to allow us to have a dance team and
evangelize all around campus. In the event, I had the opportunity to teach the students
how our experiences shaped our reality and how our testimony has power.
Sector Course Reflection: TSL 3080 ESOL Principles and Practices
This course introduces issues, principles, and practices of TESOL to develop cultural underpinnings that form the foundation necessary to meet the needs of linguistically diverse students. Personally, this course raised so many questions. Still, the one that stood out to me was ... Why is it essential to examine your cultural identity as you develop a global perspective in the education world? After the course, I would say that my answer is, "The best way to change the world through education and tackle global issues effectively is by understanding the different perspectives and angles on such issues.
Intercultural Course Reflection: International Protection of Human Rights
The course is focused on the developmental concerns of the international community pertaining to the rights of individuals and groups along with the institutional mechanisms which have been set up for their protection. This course played a monumental role in me wanting to follow the path of human rights. From learning the history of Human Rights and the treaties and procedures that correspond with it, I felt a confirmation that I wanted to fight for those who don't have a voice and work with the UN Sustainable Development Goal which has become one of my main focuses.

What does this matter to me?
As an international student, I have always had in my heart the passion for serving the global community. Being able to see the tangible results of my work in real life is something that sparked the flare in my heart to follow this path. Life is more than profit margins or statements. It is to set out for something bigger than yourself and leave a legacy full of faith, love and hope.
Thanks to the programs and projects I have been a part of, I developed the ability to overcome uncertainty, have empathy, be self-aware of my surroundings and global issues. However, most importantly, I learned how to walk humbly and be the change I want to see in the world. It has allowed me to improve my linguistic skills and expand upon my knowledge of the career I chose to follow. Moreover, this opportunity has allowed me to create several platforms in order to empower generations to seek their freedom, find their passions, and fight for their voices. I additionally have formed partnerships and collaborated with different departments of my university, some by the likes of the Honors College, Global Learning, COIL, etc., and established institutions abroad. Thanks to the Peace Corps Pre program, I learned how to take my social impact to the next level.
"As the founder of own your crown, I wished to further connect with my South Asian and Hispanic heritage, to exchange with other Hispanic and Asian cultures, and better understand the intricacies of their identity and how that shaped the world." Prachi Lalwani
